Madhi19 Reddit new post madhi19 on TIL that the length of time from when Frodo first gets the ring to when he actually sets out on his adventure is 17 years, not a few weeks like the movie makes it seem.

Well the source materials not that great to begin with. I consider Order to be the weakest link in the chain. I usually skip it when rereading the cycle.
