Madhi19 Reddit new post madhi19 on TIL that the length of time from when Frodo first gets the ring to when he actually sets out on his adventure is 17 years, not a few weeks like the movie makes it seem.

Hey Barad-dûr was not build in a day! Have you any idea how much Gold and Mithril it cost just in bribe to get that zoning changed? Not to mention all the environmental studies we had to fake. Also the Troll's teamsters rep who had to be "replaced". And the fucking Morgul Orc's who keep killing my foremen and my engineers. Speaking of engineers do you know how fucking expensive it is to replace them. Hell I almost had to sub contract half the work to the fucking Dwarves and you know how those greedy bastards are!
