You know why the whole region is a mess in the first place? Because outsiders have been meddling with the region since before the fall of the Ottoman empire. The best we could do for the long term stability of the region and the world is let them find their own damn political balance. Sure it ain't going to be pretty for a while but that band-aid was getting ripped off sooner or later. We are witnessing the birth of a post colonial Middle-East and like with Africa that kind of historical transition is never pretty.
