It hard to make a movie about a war that in the ultimate analysis was a crazy mistake by all sides involved. Despite propaganda at the time, WW1 was never really about good vs evil but more about dumb leaders vs even dumber leaders. How do you make a movie about a four year meat grinder that led to nothing but death, plague, destruction, and the rise of totalitarian states?
