The big point of contention is that the speed they deliver is ridiculously compared to the technology they are deploying, and the price the telco are charging. The reason for that is they rather use the rest of the pipe to sell you "other" stuff like TV and VOD. I know a guy in Atlanta, and the minute Google Fiber was rumoured to be coming to his part of town his old ISP doubled his speed, no extra charge, no new hardware, just like flipping a switch. He went from 125 to 250, and the only reason that happened was they finally had true competition in the market.
